The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking its time to release data about Pfizer’s Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, but the pages that have been released so far are very damning.
According to the documents, there were a total of 42,086 case reports for adverse reactions – 25,379 medically confirmed and 16,707 non-medically confirmed cases. There were a total of 158,893 events. According to a Waking Times report, those cases resulted in 1,223 deaths.
Over 25,000 of the reported events were classified as “nervous system disorders.” Since the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine in December last year, there have been more than 913,000 reports of adverse events in the OpenVAERS global database. The FDA has released the first batch of “confidential” documents, in accordance with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit by the Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency (PHMT).
PHMT aims to encourage transparency in public health decision-making, like the vaccine authorization process. However, the FDA has no intention to fully release the clinical trials information.
The court ruling revealed that the FDA proposed to reveal 500 pages per month. According to the calculated number of pages, the release of the document would only be completed after almost 55 years or in 2076.
“Until the entire body of documents provided by Pfizer to the FDA are made available, an appropriate analysis by the independent scientists that are members of Plaintiff is not possible,” read the court ruling
Two months after the lawsuit was filed, the FDA produced the first 91 pages of the lengthy report.
It is not clear whether or not the released pages touch on the efficacy of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. But Israel has a fairly good idea about that as it sees firsthand how the vaccine’s efficacy wanes over time.
Israel has one of the world’s highest levels of vaccination for coronavirus, with 78 percent of people aged 12 and older fully vaccinated. The majority of citizens received the Pfizer vaccine.
But despite the high vaccination rate, Israel is recording one of the world’s highest infection rates at almost 650 new cases daily per million people. Over 50 percent of cases are among fully vaccinated people.
The number of vaccinated citizens suggests that breakthrough infections are unavoidable. Because of Israel’s pandemic struggles, other countries are now rolling out booster shots.
Ran Balicer, chief innovation officer at Clalit Health Services, Israel’s largest health maintenance organization (HMO), advised that the rest of the world should learn from Israel because what happened to the country “can probably happen everywhere.”
Back in December 202o, Israel was one of the first countries that received COVID-19 vaccines and it quickly achieved a degree of population coverage. Additionally, Israel has a robust public health infrastructure and a population enrolled in HMOs that closely tracked citizens to produce high-quality, real-world data on how effective vaccines allegedly were.
As of writing, cases in Israel have skyrocketed to their highest level since mid-February, with hospitalizations and intensive care unit admissions also on the rise. It remains to be seen how much of the surge in Israel is linked to waning immunity or the transmissibility of the delta variant.
