Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky believes the Democrats’ push for more Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic restrictions is bringing Americans together to oppose those measures.
Paul made this statement during an appearance on Fox News on Monday, February 7. He talked about growing calls from across the political spectrum for Democrats to abandon the tyrannical COVID-19 mandates.
“You know, I think it’s no longer a right-left issue,” said Paul. “There may have been more of us on the right not liking the government mandates, but I think now you’re finding parents of children, whether they’re left of center, in the center, independents, who really don’t like the idea of just forcing children to wear masks when the science doesn’t really indicate that the masks are working.”
“I think, in the end, the Democrats have really overplayed their hand on the mandates, because they’re going to lose … their public,” he continued. “So, I think this is a turning point. Ultimately, Democrats are going to lose the public. And if they haven’t already lost the public, I think they’re getting there.”
Paul pointed out that even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has admitted that masks do not work. “It’s really getting to the point where the science is clear that the bulk and the vast majority of the masks people are wearing have no difference, make no difference, in the trajectory of the virus,” he said. The senator added that, if the Democrats were just normal people who did not have any influence on public policy, then them making a mistake regarding mandates would be fine.
“If it were just adults being stupid that would be fine, you have a right to be stupid in a free country, but you don’t have a right to force this on children,” he said. “These people will never let go of our freedoms or our children if we don’t push back.”
In an interview with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, Paul revealed that he has always believed the COVID-19 mask and vaccine mandates were not about protecting the American people, but about “submission” and “collectivism.”
“It’s always been more about submission. It’s always been more about collectivism,” said Paul. “It’s been about growing government power over your lives because the science has been clear for a long time on masks for children.”
In an interview with The Hill’s program “Rising” on Tuesday, February 8, Paul talked about how more policymakers on both sides of the aisle are dropping their support for tyrannical COVID-19 restrictions.
“It is evidence that this is spreading beyond a Republican and Democrat thing,” said Paul. “That now you actually have Democrat governors” rolling back COVID-19 mandates.
His comments were made just after four states with Democratic governors – Oregon, New Jersey, Delaware and Connecticut – announced plans to repeal mask mandates for children in schools in the next few weeks.
“I think they’re hearing the pushback. I think they are getting the pushback from moms and dads in schools,” he said. “Also, it is just absurd.”
Paul has, almost from the very beginning of the pandemic, been one of the harshest critics of mandates and most vocal supporters of health freedom in the Senate.
“I think we could just try freedom for a while and each individual will make their own decision,” he said.”
