Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has reiterated that the Natural State will not impose lockdowns and other mandates related to the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Republican governor took to X (formerly Twitter) to stress that she is on the side of health freedom against medical martial law. “COVID-19 lockdowns killed businesses, tore apart communities and stunted our kids’ education. And now, they’re talking about doing it again,” she said in a video.
“So let me be clear. As long as I am governor, Arkansas will never lock down. We will not close our schools, our churches or our businesses. We will never make you or your children wear a mask. And we will never, ever have a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.”
Sanders, daughter of former Gov. Mike Huckabee, reiterated that “government should never loom larger than individual liberty in our lives. That’s the principle our nation was founded on.” She ultimately warned that “if the federal government ever comes to tell us to shut down again, [her] administration will fight to keep Arkansas free.”
The former White House press secretary had earlier repealed several COVID-19 edicts imposed by her predecessor, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson, in January. A press release from her office confirmed the termination of five “obsolete” executive orders. Sanders also ordered the state government “to prioritize and promote other pressing public health challenges.”
“Unfortunately, (the) government has prioritized COVID-19 disproportionately – and allowed other health concerns like addiction, cancer screenings, diabetes and mental health to worsen. As governor, I will always put the health, safety and well-being of Arkansans first,” she said.
“I promised that when I was elected governor, Arkansas would not have mask mandates or vaccine mandates and we would not shut down churches and schools because we believe in personal freedom and responsibility. The first case of COVID-19 was identified more than three years ago, and it is time for Arkansas – and America – to get back to normal.”
Sanders served as press secretary under former President Donald Trump. Her former boss posted a video on Truth Social, saying in the clip that lockdowns and other draconian mandates were part of a scheme to steal the 2024 presidential elections.
“The left-wing lunatics are trying very hard to bring back COVID lockdowns and mandates with all of their sudden fearmongering about the new variants that are coming. They want to restart the COVID hysteria so they can justify more lockdowns, more censorship, more illegal drop boxes, more mail-in ballots and trillions of dollars in payoffs to their political allies heading into the 2024 election,” said Trump.
“They rigged the 2020 election and now they’re trying to do the same thing all over again by rigging the most important election in the history of our country, the 2024 election, even if it means trying to bring back COVID.”
The former president issued a stern warning against every COVID tyrant who wants to take away people’s] freedom. “Don’t even think about it,” he said. (Related: Never forget: Leftists showed their true authoritarian colors during COVID.)
“Hear these words: We will not comply. We will not shut down our schools, we will not accept your lockdowns, we will not abide by your mask mandates and we will not tolerate your vaccine mandates.”
